At Next Step Behavioral Houston, our staff work with families and residents to address aggressive behaviors. Aggressive behaviors are behaviors that can cause emotional or physical harm to self or others. It can also be displayed in verbal or physical abuse, which may lead to destruction of property. Individuals that engage in such behaviors may feel frustrated, irritable, restless or be non-compliant with prescribed medications. This type of behavior violates social boundaries. It can also be a cause for past or present breakdown in relationships.

What Causes Aggressive Behaviors? There are many factors that can shape one's behavior, which are inclusive of but not limited to the following:

There are evening some health issues that can contribute to aggressive behaviors. Those include but not limited to the following:

How is Aggressive Behaviors Treated at Next Step Behavioral Houston (NSBH)?

At NSBH, we treat aggression with professionalism and understanding of the individual needs of the resident. The clinical teams works with the family and resident to gain an understanding of the underline cause(s) for the aggression. The resident is encouraged to work with his/her primary therapist to address the cause in a safe environment. The resident is also encouraged to attend CBT groups, which can help the client control their aggressive through learning coping mechanisms. The resident will have every opportunity to work through their aggression if they are willing to put in the work. This level of work will be a part of their treatment plan that the resident and therapist will create together.
